   2008 WEEKLY RESULTS
SAT, MAY 31ST moved to SUN, JUNE 1ST RACE RESULTS
Upper Iowa Speedway 6-1-08
By Dwight Jones

The weekend racing action at Decorah’s Upper Iowa Speedway was delayed until Sunday evening when a nasty hail, wind and rain storm moved through late Saturday afternoon. However, Mother Nature was much friendlier the second time around as race fans headed to Northeast Iowa’s “Action Track” for some Sunday excitement. A class-by-class review of all the thrills and spills includes -

Fisk Farm and Home Hornets – for the third week in a row, Adam Leiran shot to the early lead in the Hornet feature, but once again, he would soon have to contend with Steve Dwyer, who was thus far unbeaten on the season. Dwyer got alongside Leiran and soon after took the lead. Chris Gooder moved his #16 into third and it became a three car break away, but the lead was all Dwyer’s who claimed his third feature win in a row to start the 2008 season. Leiran was second and Gooder third.

Sunoco Race Fuels Hobby Stocks – pole-sitter Dan Hovden led the Hobby feature early with Brandon Hare closing to second. Kyle Anderson brought out a caution when he lost a tire in corner two. Hovden led again following the re-start, but Hare quickly got alongside the leader and soon after was up front. Adam Cline moved into second and was setting his sights on the leader when Hovden spun, bringing out another caution. Hare led again following the re-start and would survive one more when Jeremy Oakes spun to give Hare the win, finishing ahead of Danny Sacquinte and Cline.

Sim’s TV Outlaw Hobby Stocks – Brad Darling started outside pole in the Outlaw Hobby Stock feature and shot to an early lead. A great three way battle for second developed between Kyle Falck, Dillon Anderson and Josh Ludeking. All four leaders have been extremely strong early this year, with Falck and Anderson already having feature wins under their belts. However, this time around it was Ludeking who would take home his first trophy of the win as he held off Anderson who held off last week’s winner Falck in the caution free event.

Bill’s Auto Repair B-Mods – Brian Freilinger had a great run in last week’s B-Mod feature when he finished second, and continued that momentum this time around when he moved out to an early lead. A great three-way fight for second then took place between Matt Jones, Greg Mitchel and Phil Wernert. By the time Jones finally moved to the runner-up spot, Freilinger had built a sizeable lead. However, once Freilinger was into lap traffic, Jones had caught him, and with the two-to-go flags flying they were door-to-door. With Jones on the bottom and Freilinger up high they came to the checkers deadlocked with Freilinger squeezing ahead at the flag to claim his first feature win of the year to finish off an awesome race.

Decorah Implement Stock Cars – Brian Gjere used his front row starting spot to rocket to the lap one lead of the Stock Car feature. However, last week’s winner Dan Jones came from nowhere to blast past Gjere for the lead. Jake Ludeking, Gjere and Kevin Donlan had a great three-way battle going for second when Mitch Hovden, Kurt Krauskopf and last week’s winner Matt Greiner made it a six way tussle. Surprisingly it was Hovden, the rookie of the bunch, that made it out of the pack in second by which time Jones had built a sizeable advantage. Ludeking had gotten alongside Hovden just before a caution flew for a spin by Brian Mahlstedt. Jones burst to a nice lead yet again after the re-start, with all those mentioned previously continuing to do battle. At the flag it was Greiner edging out Donlan for second while Jones made it look easy to claim his second feature win in three weeks.
